Situated in Tyngsboro, MA, near the intersection of Routes 3 and 495, IACS draws a diverse student body from neighboring districts, including Lowell, Dracut, and Chelmsford, as well as Tyngsboro.
Position OverviewThe Reading Specialist will provide specialized reading instruction and intervention to students who require additional support in foundational reading skills, decoding, phonics, fluency, spelling, and reading comprehension. The specialist will work collaboratively with special education teachers, classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to support student growth and ensure that instruction aligns with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and identified learning needs.
This is a 0.40.6 FTE part-time position, with the schedule determined based on the needs of the school and the selected candidate. Schedule can be flexible if needed and include full or part days.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct, small-group reading instruction to students with identified reading needs
Deliver systematic, explicit, and structured literacy instruction using evidence-based practices
Implement the Wilson Reading Program and other appropriate structured literacy interventions
Develop instruction based on individual student needs, IEP goals, present levels of performance, and ongoing assessment data
Provide targeted intervention in areas including:
Phonemic awareness
Phonics and decoding
Encoding and spelling
Word recognition
Reading fluency
Vocabulary
Reading comprehension
Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data
Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and intervention services
Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, administrators, and related service providers
Participate in IEP Team meetings and contribute relevant progress-monitoring and instructional information
Participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive school environment.
Required Qualifications
Current Massachusetts licensure as a Reading Specialist or Special Education Teacher is required
Experience providing structured literacy or specialized reading instruction to students with reading disabilities is strongly preferred
Knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction and structured literacy practices
Ability to use student data to plan instruction and monitor progress
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Commitment to inclusive education and supporting diverse learners.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with students in elementary and/or middle school settings
Experience working with students with dyslexia, specific learning disabilities, or other language-based learning needs
Experience with Wilson Reading System implementation and progress monitoring
Familiarity with Massachusetts special education requirements and IEP processes.
