21 Hours a week Position Summary Morrice Area Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-centered 6-12 Reading Support Teacher to provide targeted literacy instruction and intervention for middle and high school students. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administrators to improve reading achievement, build student confidence, and support academic success across all content areas. Essential Responsibilities Provide evidence-based reading intervention to students in grades 6-12. Assess student reading skills using district screening and diagnostic tools. Develop individualized intervention plans based on student needs. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction using data-driven practices. Collaborate with general education teachers to support literacy strategies across the curriculum. Participate in MTSS and intervention team meetings. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents and staff. Support students in developing reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and writing skills necessary for academic success. Assist with identifying students in need of intervention and recommending appropriate instructional supports. Participate in professional development focused on literacy instruction and intervention. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/Principal. Qualifications Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate. Reading Specialist (BR) endorsement preferred but not required. Certification in English Language Arts, Elementary Education, Special Education, or another appropriate endorsement considered. Experience providing reading intervention or literacy instruction preferred. Knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices, MTSS, and progress monitoring. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Commitment to building positive relationships with students and families. Preferred Qualifications Experience with adolescent literacy intervention. Familiarity with NWEA MAP, DIBELS, Acadience, or similar assessment tools. Experience working with diverse learners and students requiring academic interventions. Knowledge of the Science of Reading and structured literacy practices.
