Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Literacy Intervention Specialist to join our team. As an AIS Teacher specializing in reading and math, you will work with students who require additional support to improve their reading/math skills and academic performance. Your role will involve conducting assessments, designing targeted interventions, and providing individualized instruction to help students achieve literacy proficiency.
Responsibilities:
Individualized Instruction:
Develop and implement targeted intervention plans tailored to the specific needs and skill levels of each student. Provide small group or one-on-one instruction using evidence-based reading/math strategies and interventions. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning. Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education teachers, and other stakeholders to align intervention strategies with classroom instruction and support students' overall academic success.
Classroom Management:
Establishes and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respects and cooperation among students. Implements positive behavior intervention strategies to support students in developing appropriate social and behavioral skills. Works closely with the school's behavior support team to address challenging behaviors and implement effective interventions. Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
Administers diagnostic assessments to identify students' reading and or math strengths, areas of growth, and instructional needs. Analyzes assessment data to inform instructional planning and intervention strategies. Regularly assesses student progress using a variety of assessment tools and provide constructive feedback to both students and parents. Monitors students' progress and growth in reading and math proficiency through ongoing assessment and data analysis. Adjusts instructional strategies and interventions as needed to address students' changing needs and ensure continuous improvement.
Parent Communication:
Regularly communicates with parents and guardians regarding student achievements, challenges, and overall progress. Fosters open and effective communication with parents through regular updates, parent-teacher conferences, and other communication channels. Works collaboratively with parents to support students' academic and social development.
Professional Development:
Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends, teaching methodologies, and curriculum advancements. This includes attending workshops, seminars, and professional meetings such as faculty and department/grade level meetings. Collaborates with fellow teachers and staff to share best practices and enhance the overall learning experience for students.
Other:

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and NYS Certification in B-6 Literacy or K-12 Literacy/Reading Strong knowledge of curriculum, instructional strategies, and educational trends. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with children. Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
