Educational Requirements:
Successful completion of Praxis Examination; or two years of college; or certified, licensed teacher (preferred).
Possess Skills and Knowledge:
Rapport with children; maintain patience and compassion; an understanding of, and the ability to present and clarify, material being presented.
Experience:
Previous experience with young children would be a definite asset. A willingness to accept and follow directions and the desire to gain expertise regarding appropriate material selection and methods of instruction best tailored to meet specific needs are of utmost importance. Computer literacy in word processing, database and spreadsheet.
Certification:
Elementary Teacher License preferred.
Other:
Maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, patrons, and the community.
Essential Functions:
Providing instruction and interventions to help students develop, maintain and strengthen their language arts and mathskills. Group instruction. Classroom instruction under reading teacher's supervision. Maintain records of relevant information regarding student progress on a continuous basis. Preparing for effective instruction. Consulting and collaborating with teachers. Learning and using appropriate materials for given objectives. Preparing progress reports to parents, when requested. Assisting in the administration and scoring of assessment measures. Participating in appropriate professional development. Maintaining appropriate environment in classroom. Assisting with parent meetings as requested. Assisting in the planning of parent meetings and staff development. Before the first instructional session commences and after the last session, time is spent exclusively on: Assisting in test administration , scoring,and data entry. Organizing materials Tracking Title I inventory Update student data/progress per principal direction Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students. Project a genuine care and concern for all students. Other duties as assigned by the Principal/Principal's Designee.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
