POSITION SUMMARY
Creve Coeur School District 76 is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered, and collaborative 7th/8th Grade Science Teacher to join the Parkview Middle School team. The successful candidate will provide engaging, rigorous, and developmentally appropriate science instruction that encourages students to be curious, ask questions, investigate scientific phenomena, analyze evidence, solve problems, and apply scientific knowledge to real-world situations. The Science Teacher will support the District 76 mission of helping students obtain the knowledge, skills, and self-motivation necessary to become lifelong learners, socially responsible citizens, and active participants in an ever-changing world. The teacher will create a safe, positive, inclusive, and academically challenging classroom environment in which all students are encouraged to succeed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The 7th/8th Grade Science Teacher shall: Plan and deliver high-quality science instruction aligned with Illinois Learning Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) . Develop engaging lessons appropriate for middle school learners in the areas of life science, physical science, earth and space science, and related STEM concepts. Provide students with frequent opportunities for hands-on investigations, laboratory experiences, scientific inquiry, experimentation, and engineering design . Teach students to ask questions, develop hypotheses, collect and analyze data, evaluate evidence, and communicate scientific conclusions. Develop students' critical-thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills. Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, and learning needs of individual students. Provide appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and other identified learning needs. Collaborate with special education teachers, related-service personnel, grade-level colleagues, administrators, and other staff to support student success. Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and modify instruction. Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, assessments, interventions, and academic progress. Provide students with meaningful and timely feedback. Integrate reading, writing, mathematics, technology, and research skills into science instruction. Incorporate appropriate technology and digital resources to enhance student learning. Establish and maintain effective classroom routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations. Maintain a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, inclusive, and conducive to learning. Follow all District 76 policies, procedures, safety requirements, and expectations. Maintain appropriate laboratory safety procedures and ensure students are properly supervised during experiments and investigations. Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other family engagement activities. Participate actively in grade-level and building-level collaborative teams and Professional Learning Communities. Participate in professional development and implement research-based instructional practices. Support District 76 academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and school-improvement initiatives. Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning activities, school events, and other assigned responsibilities. Maintain professional and positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and the community. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent.
INSTRUCTIONAL EXPECTATIONS
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to: Engage Students Create science experiences that encourage curiosity and student questioning. Connect science concepts to students' everyday lives and real-world issues. Use hands-on learning, inquiry, demonstrations, laboratory activities, and STEM experiences. Promote Scientific Thinking Teach students to make observations, ask questions, analyze information, interpret data, and develop evidence-based explanations. Encourage students to defend their conclusions using scientific evidence. Develop students' ability to apply science concepts to authentic problems. Differentiate Instruction Recognize and respond to individual student learning needs. Provide enrichment opportunities for advanced learners. Provide appropriate intervention and support for students who experience academic difficulties. Collaborate with special education staff and other support personnel. Use Assessment Effectively Establish clear learning objectives and success criteria. Use formative assessments to monitor student understanding. Analyze student data to identify instructional needs. Provide timely feedback and adjust instruction accordingly.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND STUDENT SUPPORT
The teacher will establish a classroom environment that: Promotes respect, responsibility, and student accountability. Maintains high academic and behavioral expectations. Encourages positive relationships between students and staff. Supports students' social-emotional development. Uses proactive classroom-management strategies. Follows District 76 student discipline and behavior procedures. Provides consistent supervision and maintains student safety.
PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION
Because Creve Coeur School District 76 is a community-focused school district, the successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues and families.
Professional responsibilities include:
Collaborating with Parkview Middle School staff. Participating in grade-level and/or content-area team meetings. Sharing instructional strategies and resources with colleagues. Working collaboratively with special education and student-support teams. Participating in district professional development. Supporting District 76 school-improvement goals. Maintaining open and professional communication with families. Contributing positively to the culture and climate of Parkview Middle School.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with the appropriate science endorsement for the assignment. Knowledge of middle school science content and instructional practices. Strong classroom-management and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators. Commitment to providing an equitable and supportive learning environment for all students. Illinois currently recognizes a Middle Grades 5-8 General Science endorsement , with ISBE identifying specific requirements for that endorsement. Candidates must hold the appropriate Illinois licensure/endorsement for the assignment.
Preferred:
Previous 7th/8th grade science teaching experience. Experience with NGSS-aligned instruction. Experience conducting middle school laboratory investigations. Experience with STEM, project-based learning, or inquiry-based instruction. Experience differentiating instruction for diverse learners. Experience working collaboratively in a Professional Learning Community. Strong educational technology skills.

EVALUATION
Performance shall be evaluated by the Building Principal or designee in accordance with Creve Coeur School District 76 policies, applicable Illinois law, the District's teacher evaluation plan, and the applicable collective bargaining agreement .
Pay:
$47,721.00 - $81,740.00 per year
