Computer Science Instructor Westlawn School | Winston-Salem, NC Part-Time Independent Contractor | Approximately 3-3.5 Hours/Week | $18-$25hour based on experience Westlawn School is seeking an engaging and creative Computer Science Instructor to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. Westlawn is a small, specialized private school serving gifted and twice-exceptional students in grades 3-12. Our students thrive with hands-on, experiential learning that allows them to explore their interests, solve real-world problems, and develop confidence as learners.
This is a great opportunity for someone with experience or interest in computer science, coding, technology, engineering, STEM, or education who enjoys working with small groups of curious, creative students. Schedule The regular instructional schedule is: Tuesdays, 1:30-2:40 p.m. Thursdays, 1:30-2:40 p.m. Up to one additional hour per week for planning and preparation Approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes per week On-site at Westlawn School in Winston-Salem What You'll Do The Computer Science Instructor will design and facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences in areas such as coding, computational thinking, digital literacy, technology, design, problem-solving, and related computer science concepts. Rather than relying solely on traditional lectures or worksheets, we are looking for someone who can help students learn by doing through projects, challenges, experimentation, collaboration, and real-world applications. Plan and deliver hands-on computer science lessons and projects. Adapt instruction to different student strengths, interests, and learning profiles. Prepare instructional materials, technology, and digital resources. Encourage creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and confidence. Teach digital citizenship, online safety, and responsible technology use. Monitor student participation, project completion, skill development, and progress. Collaborate with Westlawn curriculum leadership and faculty regarding instructional goals and student needs. Who We're Looking For Knowledge or experience in computer science, coding, technology, engineering, STEM, or a related field. Enjoys working with children and adolescents. Able to build positive relationships with students. Creative and flexible in instructional approach. Comfortable working with students who have a wide range of strengths, interests, and learning profiles. Able to create hands-on, project-based learning experiences. Communicates and collaborates well with educators. Dependable, organized, and prepared. Models responsible and ethical use of technology. Previous teaching experience is helpful, but not required. We are open to candidates from technology or STEM backgrounds who have the ability to connect with students and make computer science engaging and accessible. Experience working with gifted, twice-exceptional, neurodivergent, or other diverse learners is a plus. Compensation $18.00-$25.00 per hour as an independent contractor.
