Job Description

Wenatchee Valley College Biology Instructor Wenatchee Valley College is seeking part-time faculty to join its science faculty, teaching Biology. The successful candidate will potentially teach a combination of in-person and online classes as well as labs. Biology is an important discipline in WVC's need to provide a balanced array of offerings in the sciences and in supporting nursing and transfer degree programs which students use to continue study at four-year colleges across the state and country.
Note :
Employment of individuals who reside outside the state of Washington requires prior approval from both human resources and the college president. Absent such approval, the college will not hire out-of-state employees.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide exceptional classroom and laboratory instruction in majors and non-majors science courses including, but not limited to general biology (including cellular, plant and animal biology) and human anatomy and physiology. Participate actively in the development, implementation, and monitoring of practices that promote a safe classroom and laboratory learning environment. Prepare or modify course content including syllabi, presentations and lessons, in accordance with college course outlines. Incorporate pedagogies that support best learning practices for all students, particularly underrepresented and underserved students. Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college. Give timely feedback and progress reports to students during the quarter and submit final grades at the end of the quarter. Maintain office hours. Work cooperatively within the department and college community and attend monthly department chair meetings. Foster a positive working environment that is free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias, and demonstrate a respect for the dignity of everyone.
Required Qualifications:
• A master's degree with an emphasis in the biological sciences. OR A bachelor's degree plus 24 completed quarterly graduate hours with an emphasis in the biological sciences; and o Documented progress towards completing a master's degree within three calendar years of hire in the biological sciences.
Desired Qualifications:
Successful experience teaching, especially at the college level. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience utilizing a Learning Management System, such as Canvas. A demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusiveness in an educational environment. We are looking for enthusiastic instructors who set high expectations and are eager to help students meet those expectations. Interviews may include a teaching demonstration on a topic selected by the interview committee. Pay The pay for classes depends on the number of credits and instructional mode (lab, lecture or a combination). In general, each lecture credit is one hour a week and paid at $124.76 per hour ($1372.40 per credit). For example, if the class was five credits, it would meet five hours per week and be paid at 55 hours for the quarter and the salary would be approximately $6,862. Each lab credit is two hours and paid at $62.38 per hour. Therefore, if the class was a three-credit lab, it would meet six hours per week a be paid at 66 hours for the quarter and the pay would be approximately $4,117.
