Ski School Director Tussey Mountain Ski Area Department:
Ski School Reports to:
Operations Manager Job Summary:
The Ski School Director is responsible for the overall operation, management, and strategic development of the ski and snowboard school. This is a senior leadership role that ensures the highest standards of safety, instruction, and guest experience. The director will manage a team of instructors, develop lesson programs, and oversee all administrative and financial aspects of the ski school.
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:
Recruit, hire, train, and manage all ski and snowboard instructors. Develop and implement a comprehensive training and certification program for all staff. Create daily and weekly instructor schedules, managing payroll and labor costs. Foster a positive and professional work environment, providing ongoing coaching and performance feedback. Ensure all instructors are certified (e.g., PSIA-AASI) or are candidates pursing certifications and adhere to a strict code of conduct. 2.
Program Development and Delivery:
Design, develop, and help market a diverse range of lesson programs for all ages and ability levels, including private lessons, group lessons, kids' programs, and specialized clinics. Ensure all lesson programs are delivered consistently, safely, and to a high standard. Monitor guest feedback and adjust programs to meet demand and improve guest satisfaction. Stay up-to-date on the latest teaching techniques and industry trends. 3.
Safety and Risk Management:
Oversee all ski school operations to ensure the safety of instructors and guests. Conduct regular on-hill safety audits and incident reviews. Work closely with Ski Patrol to manage on-hill incidents involving ski school guests. Ensure all instructors are CPR/First Aid certified and trained on emergency procedures to the best of their ability. 4.
Financial and Administrative:
Develop and manage the ski school's annual budget, including revenue projections and labor costs. Oversee all booking and point-of-sale (POS) systems for lessons. Analyze sales data and reports to drive business decisions. Manage and help create protocol in tandem with the ticket office for lesson booking and guest communication in a professional and timely manner. 5.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with the Guest Services, Rental, and Marketing departments to ensure a seamless guest experience. Communicate with guests to handle specific requests, concerns, or complaints. Represent the ski school in a professional manner to guests, staff, and the wider community.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in ski/snowboard instruction, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role. Must be a certified ski and/or snowboard instructor (e.g., PSIA-AASI Level 2 or 3). Proven experience in recruiting, training, and managing a team. Strong knowledge of ski and snowboard teaching methodologies and safety standards. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Strong financial acumen and experience with budget management and POS systems. Must be able to ski or snowboard proficiently in all conditions. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to ski or snowboard for extended periods in all weather conditions. Ability to stand and walk on snow and uneven terrain. Manual dexterity for handling equipment. Pay:
$15,000.00 - $20,000.00 per year
