Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Assistant Professor of Social Work/ Field Education Director is a full-time, tenure-track, nine-month faculty appointment principally assigned to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program. The position combines faculty teaching responsibilities with leadership and administration of the BSW field education component. The Field Education Director is responsible for the development, coordination, oversight, and evaluation of field education in accordance with program requirements, University policies, and applicable accreditation standards. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes. Full-time faculty are expected to participate fully in departmental and program activities, maintain regular office hours, remain current in the discipline and profession of social work, and incorporate appropriate technology into instruction. All faculty members must follow the policies and procedures established by Edward Waters University.
ACCREDITATION AND PROGRAM ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS
This position is a full-time faculty appointment in Social Work, with principal assignment to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program. The faculty member will serve in the dual role of Assistant Professor of Social Work and Field Education Director. The faculty member will teach undergraduate social work courses, including social work practice courses, and contribute to the development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of the SSW curriculum. The faculty member will also participate in program governance, academic advising, student support, accreditation activities, and other responsibilities necessary to advance the mission and effectiveness of the BSW Program. The successful candidate must hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited program and have a minimum of two years of post-MSW professional social work practice experience. As Field Education Director, the faculty member will provide leadership and oversight for the BSW field education program, including the coordination and administration of field education activities. The faculty member must demonstrate the knowledge, experience, and leadership necessary to administer field education effectively and will be provided sufficient assigned time to fulfill field education responsibilities in addition to faculty teaching and service obligations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Professor of Social Work/ Field Education Director is responsible for teaching, field education leadership, student support, program development, assessment, and service. Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Teaching and Faculty Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate social work courses at the lower and upper levels, including social work practice courses, in accordance with assigned faculty workload.
Develop and deliver high-quality, student-centered instruction using effective and evidence-informed teaching strategies.
Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, examinations, learning activities, and other course-related materials.
Design and implement performance-based assessments aligned with BSW program competencies and student learning outcomes using formative and summative measures.
Integrate appropriate instructional technology and digital resources into teaching and learning.
Maintain professional currency in social work education, practice, pedagogy, and emerging issues within the profession.
Promote student success through timely communication, meaningful feedback, academic support, and instructional strategies responsive to diverse learners.
Advise and mentor undergraduate students regarding academic progression, professional development, field education, career preparation, and graduate education opportunities.
Field Education Director Responsibilities:
Serve as field Education Director for the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program and provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of field education.
Administer, coordinate, assess, and continuously improve the BSW field education program in alignment with the curriculum, program policies, University requirements, and applicable accreditation standards.
Identify, develop, evaluate, approve, and maintain appropriate field placement sites and community agency partnerships.
Coordinate student field placements and verify that students meet established field education eligibility requirements prior to placement.
Recruit, orient, support, and maintain regular communication with field instructors, agency representatives, students, and faculty.
Monitor student progress and performance in field education and coordinate appropriate interventions when placement, supervision, performance, or other field-related concerns arise.
Coordinate the evaluation of students, field instructors, and field placement sites and use evaluation findings to support continuous improvement of field education.
Maintain accurate and current field education records, affiliation agreements, placement documentation, evaluations, and other required program and University records.
Ensure that field education policies, procedures, assessment practices, forms, and documentation are consistently implemented and aligned with the BSW curriculum.
Support the development and maintenance of the Field Education Manual and other field-related policies, procedures, forms, and assessment instruments.
Program, Accreditation, and Service Responsibilities:
Participate actively in BSW curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation activities, continuous improvement, and preparation of accreditation reports and supporting documentation.
Contribute to departmental and program governance, faculty meetings, committees, planning activities, and other University service responsibilities.
Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum strategies that strengthen student learning and achievement of BSW competencies.
Support student recruitment, retention, progression, and professional development initiatives.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and professional partners that support field education, student learning, and the BSW Program.
Perform other duties consistent with the faculty appointment and Field Education Director role as assigned by the Department Chair or appropriate University administrator.

Qualifications:
Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited program is required.
Doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree in Social Work or a closely related discipline from an institutionally accredited college or university is preferred.
Minimum of two years of post-MSW professional social work practice experience is required.
Ability and willingness to maintain a full-time faculty appointment in Social Work with principal assignment to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program is required.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and oversight for the BSW field education program.
Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered learning environment.
Prior college-level teaching experience is expected; online teaching experience is preferred.
Proficiency in active and collaborative learning strategies and the effective use of instructional technology.
Experience with field education, field instruction, program assessment, accreditation, curriculum development, and/or student advising is preferred.
Evidence of success or potential for success in scholarship, research, grant procurement, professional presentations, and publication is preferred.
Experience with Quality Matters standards and best practices for online instruction is preferred.
All candidates must meet Edward Waters University faculty credentialing requirements.
