Job Description

Bethany Public Schools is in search of a Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a one year, grant funded, contracted positon.

Position Summary:

To plan, deliver, and monitor an appropriate instructional program for identified students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings.

Reports to: Director of Special Services, Curriculum and Instruction.

Salary:

$57, 934 to $100,650, per current Bethany Education Association contract.

Benefits:

Qualifications:

Valid Connecticut State Department of Education Certification in Special Education.

Experience with developmentally appropriate, activity-based teaching and learning.

Ability to work effectively with others.

Experience with Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

Strong organizational skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of local policies and state and federal laws pertaining to special education.

Demonstrated personal growth and professional development.

Demonstrated skills with instructional technology in support of the professional staff and student learning, including AAC devices

Aptitude, emotional maturity, and stability necessary for working with various types of children and professional staff.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Working knowledge of computers, copiers, audio-visual equipment and related technology in support of the professional staff and student learning.

Must possess good judgment in supervising, managing and communicating with students and assessing student's work on a regular basis.

Physical Management Training (PMT) certification is required for the position. Training will be provided if not currently certified. Develop, modify, and update IEP's

Experience providing research based instruction

Teach students in small groups and one-on-one using specialized instruction

Track and monitor student performance on goals and objectives

Experience with discrete trial instruction preferred

Assess and evaluate student skills to determine eligibility and to determine present levels of performance
