Special Education Teacher - Chaplin, CT

Job Description

Step into a rewarding opportunity serving middle and high school students as a Special Education Teacher in Mansfield, Connecticut. In this contract position, you'll work collaboratively with another dedicated educator to support a manageable caseload within both resource and self-contained settings. You'll engage students in English Language Arts and Mathematics, crafting individualized learning experiences that help every learner thrive. You'll be responsible for writing and implementing IEPs, assessing student progress, and participating in IEP meetings to advocate for your students' needs. The caseload is well-supported, allowing for meaningful connection and tailored instruction—expect to manage 14-16 students directly while contributing to a team effort for overall caseload management. Regular testing and goal tracking are integral to your daily responsibilities, as is the opportunity to present and collaborate with colleagues and families.
Key Qualifications:
Active Connecticut Special Education Endorsement (or strong consideration for those with a Durational Shortage Area Permit) Demonstrated proficiency in writing and managing IEPs At least two years of recent teaching experience, ideally in special education settings What you'll do: Provide instruction in both resource and self-contained classrooms Develop and monitor student IEPs, adapting as needed Assess student performance and track progress toward goals Attend and present at IEP meetings Partner with another teacher to serve student needs collaboratively Take part in professional development opportunities (optional) This contract begins with a four-week or semester-long probationary period, with renewal based on performance and collaboration. Your schedule will align with school hours (Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM), and you'll enjoy a daily planning block.
