Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Companion / Caregiver Special Needs to provide exceptional support and care for individuals with diverse needs, including developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and age-related conditions. In this vital role, you will foster a safe, nurturing environment while assisting with daily activities, health monitoring, and emotional well-being. Duties Provide personal care assistance including help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using proper patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts and manual handling techniques Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) like eating, toileting, and hygiene to promote independence and dignity Monitor patients' vital signs, observe changes in condition, and report findings accurately while adhering to HIPAA privacy regulations Support medication administration following care plans and ensure proper documentation of all patient interactions Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal consumption when necessary Facilitate patient safety through vigilant observation of residents' health status, especially those with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, utilizing specialized memory care techniques Assist with transportation for medical appointments or community outings using personal transportation assistance methods Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and ensuring infection control protocols are followed Support residents' emotional well-being through active communication, companionship, and engagement in recreational activities aligned with their interests Qualifications Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly preferred Knowledge of patient observation techniques and ability to recognize signs of distress or medical emergencies Familiarity with care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities, or developmental disabilities Certification in First Aid and CPR is required; additional certifications such as HIPAA training are advantageous Experience operating patient transfer equipment like Hoyer lifts and understanding patient transfer methods is essential Ability to monitor vital signs accurately and assist with medication administration following prescribed care plans Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration Physical ability to perform heavy lifting, assist with manual handling tasks, and support patients during transfers or mobility exercises Compassionate attitude combined with a proactive approach to providing high-quality caregiving services Join us in creating a positive impact by delivering compassionate care that empowers individuals with special needs to live fuller lives.
