Job Description

Job Summary Journey Academy is seeking a Special Education Teacher to work with students in our Emotional Disabilities Program who have significant behavioral, social-emotional, and academic needs. In this role, you will develop and implement individualized educational plans, provide academic and behavioral support, and collaborate with families and school staff to promote student growth. Your ability to build positive relationships and create a structured, supportive learning environment will help students develop confidence, independence, and success. Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans and instructional activities Utilize various teaching methods and materials to support diverse learning needs Establish and communicate clear learning goals, routines, and classroom expectations Monitor student progress, assign and grade work, and provide regular feedback Maintain accurate student records in accordance with applicable laws and school policies Foster a structured, supportive classroom environment and implement effective behavioral and de-escalation strategies Participate in school meetings, professional development, and parent communications Stay current with best practices, curriculum updates, and instructional strategies Collaborate with staff and team members to provide consistent educational and behavioral support aligned with state standards Direct and support paraprofessional(s) Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for assigned students Adapt classroom activities and materials to meet individualized learning needs Provide personal care assistance for students as needed Administer standardized and developmental assessments, including ILEARN and IAM, as applicable Integrate relevant technology into instruction and student learning Maintain accurate and compliant documentation as required by DOE and Journey Academy policies Maintain student and staff confidentiality Support students' social-emotional development, self-regulation, and positive behavior Respond constructively to feedback and participate in ongoing professional growth opportunities Perform other duties as assigned to support the school community Salary
