Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher in a supportive elementary classroom setting near Pasadena, MD, with easy access to surrounding areas. This full-time contract opportunity runs from August 17, 2026, to June 18, 2027, offering 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexible start and end times between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, depending on campus needs. You'll guide a self-contained elementary class, beginning the year with five students and potentially expanding to 9-10 learners, all supported by dedicated paraprofessionals. The classroom follows the Program for Emotional & Academic Learning Support (PEALS), focusing on both academic growth and emotional well-being. As the lead educator, you'll be responsible for curriculum design, progress monitoring, and updating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), with one day each week (typically Tuesday) dedicated to IEP meetings.
Desired Qualifications:
Valid Maryland Special Education Certification Experience in elementary special education, preferably in a self-contained classroom Strong skills in IEP development and goal monitoring Familiarity with intervention programs such as Read 180, iSPIRE, Bridges Program, and Orton-Gillingham (training or experience is a plus) Collaborative approach with paraprofessionals and related service providers
