POSITION
Coordinator of Teacher Development and Special Programs
REPORTS TO
Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Accountability
SALARY GRADE
State Salary Schedule commensurate with degree, certification, and experience
NATURE OF WORK
Under the general direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services and Accountability, the Coordinator of Teacher Development and Special Programs will facilitate the development and delivery of workshops that serve the professional, educational, and training needs of all teachers and instructional assistants district-wide, as well as, provide resource materials to faculty and staff. The coordinator will monitor the professional development budgets. The coordinator must must have an understanding of curriculum frameworks, effective instructional practices, staff development approaches to learning, and program evaluations. The coordinator must have some knowledge of world languages and a general understanding of dual immersion programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Additional duties may be assigned Designs/facilitates high-quality professional learning opportunities to enhance educators' competency, organizational, communication, problem-solving, and outcomes-oriented skills. Provides systematic evaluation and analysis of the effectiveness of professional learning activities and programs. Maintains district professional learning schedules and records in compliance with state, federal, and district requirements. Develops programs and activities that reflect input from needs assessments, administrators, teachers, and parents. Possesses the skills to build relationships and collaborate with other department leaders. Provides leadership in working with principals and district-level staff in planning and implementing district training programs and addressing related district goals and objectives. Promotes innovative approaches in education that restructure the teaching/learning process. Interfaces with the business community, institutions of higher learning, and professional organizations to coordinate professional learning opportunities. Serves as the school district liaison for effective communication of the professional learning objectives and programs to the local and broader community. Disseminates information regarding district training, certification requirements, and available resources. Attends training sessions, conferences and workshops, as assigned, to acquire and retain knowledge of state and federal legislation, district requirements in conjunction with NCDPI policies and procedures. Knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Oversees, plans and monitors all special learning programs (Dual Language/Immersion, World Languages, etc.). Manages large projects. Manages and oversees budgets. Coordinates the utilization of external training consultants. Performs other duties as required by the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services and Accountability.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
LANGUAGE SKILLS
•Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, parents and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
•Ability to work with methods related to budgeting, student accounting, personnel and technology.
REASONING ABILITY
•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. OTHER
•Ability to apply knowledge of current issues and trends in special education. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with students, staff and the community. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files and paper.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree with Certification in Educational Administration, Supervision or Leadership experience is preferred, Previous experience in supervising others and project management. Previous experience in Spanish Immersion/Dual Language Program The candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
