Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding role supporting young learners as a Special Education Teacher on a contract basis near Waynesville, NC. This position offers the chance to make a genuine difference for K-3 students in a self-contained classroom setting. As enrollment grows, class sizes may reach up to 7-8 students, providing opportunities to form close connections and tailor instruction to individual needs.
Key qualifications:
Valid Special Education Teacher license in North Carolina Proven experience supporting students with autism and effective behavior management strategies preferred Comfort with all aspects of student care, including toileting and diapering as needed Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with fellow educators, support staff, and families Compassionate, adaptable, and dedicated to fostering student independence and growth
Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, individualized instruction for K-3 students in a self-contained classroom (currently 4-5 students, with a potential increase) Create positive, inclusive classroom routines that support diverse learning and behavioral needs Implement and track IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications Collaborate with team members to support holistic student development Provide structured guidance in developing academic, social, and self-help skills Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and needs Benefits of this contract role include a consistent Monday-Friday schedule from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM, offering stability while you share your expertise and build lasting relationships with your students.
