New Interdisciplinary School (NIS) is seeking a compassionate and dependable Preschool Special Education Substitute Teacher to support our classrooms when our regular teachers are absent. As a Substitute Teacher, you'll play an essential role in ensuring students continue to receive a consistent, supportive, and engaging learning experience. You'll step into established classrooms, implement lesson plans, maintain classroom routines, and collaborate with teaching assistants and related service providers to support children with developmental delays and disabilities. What You'll Do Provide classroom coverage during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Follow lesson plans, classroom schedules, and student routines to ensure continuity of instruction. Create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment. Support students' communication, social, behavioral, and academic development using positive behavior supports and evidence-based instructional strategies. Supervise classroom staff and work collaboratively with teacher assistants and related service providers. Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and independence. Communicate important information regarding the school day to administration and the returning classroom teacher. Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety protocols. QualificationsRequired New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2 or equivalent), or eligibility for substitute teaching as required by New York State. Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field. Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills. Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and student needs. Preferred Experience working with preschool-aged children (ages 3-5). Experience working with children with developmental delays and disabilities. Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), positive behavior supports, and individualized instruction.
