Job Summary:
The MLL Teacher/Coordinator supports the implementation of effective instruction and compliance for multilingual learners across the district. This role includes coaching and supporting MLL/ESL teachers, ensuring compliance with Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) regulations and federal guidelines (Title III), coordinating testing and data reporting, and promoting equitable access to learning for English learners (ELs).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and support to MLL/ESL educators and general education staff working with multilingual learners
  • Collaborate with school and/or district leaders to develop and implement MLL programming aligned with RI and federal guidelines
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with RIDE policies, including EL identification, placement, accommodations, progress monitoring, and reclassification
  • Coordinate ACCESS for ELLs testing and other mandated assessments
  • Lead or assist in EL program evaluation, including data collection, and reporting to stakeholders
  • Facilitate and/or lead professional development related to MLL instruction, cultural competence, and sheltered instructional strategies
  • Serve as a liaison between families, schools, and community agencies to support multilingual learner engagement
  • Support parent and community outreach in multiple languages when possible
  • Assist in the development of language instruction educational programs (LIEPs), including dual language or newcomer programs if applicable
  • Collaborate with curriculum coordinators to ensure MLLs have access to rigorous, grade-level curriculum
  • Maintain accurate student records, including Language Proficiency Screener results (e.g., WIDA Screener), Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and reclassification documents
  • Stay current with best practices and state/federal updates in MLL education
  • Assist in writing and managing Title III or other MLL-related grants
Qualifications:
  • Valid Rhode Island teaching certification with an ESL or Bilingual Endorsement
  • Master's degree in TESOL, Education, Bilingual Education, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience with instructional coaching and/or teacher leadership roles (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of WIDA Standards, RIDE MLL regulations, and Title III requirements
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Bilingual/biliterate in a language other than English (preferred)
