JOB DESCRIPTION
Lucky Ladd's farm park and zoo offers an immersive learning experience for school groups, summer camp attendees, and visitors alike, focusing on the exploration of our natural world. We are dedicated to providing educational programs that align with Tennessee's Academic Standards of Science, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of life cycles, pollination, cells, interdependence, matter and energy flow, heredity, biodiversity, and ecological changes. As an educator, you'll have the opportunity to develop and deliver hands-on 15-20 minute lessons that bring science and nature to life for students of all ages. YOUR ROLE ON OUR TEAM
Teach interactive and engaging lessons to students grades pre-K through 8th, aligning with Tennessee's Academic Standards of Science Prepare and deliver 10-20 minute lessons on various educational topics Adapt lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners and age groups Create a fun and hands-on learning environment that encourages student interest and participation Work collaboratively with tour guides and other staff members to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for students Collaborate with Zookeepers, Summer Camp Directors, and other team members to enhance the educational offerings Prepare, organize, and maintain educational materials and spaces before and after groups arrive Assist with checking in tour groups as they arrive for their field trips
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVE
Passion for teaching and working with children Strong communication and presentation skills Ability to adapt to different age groups and learning styles Knowledge of Tennessee's Academic Standards of Science is helpful Familiarity with natural world and environmental topics is helpful Creativity and enthusiasm for developing engaging and interactive lessons Ability to work in an outdoor setting and adapt to changing weather conditions First aid and emergency response training preferred Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field is preferred Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting is preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Lessons will take place on the farm, including outdoor areas such as fields, trails, and education pavilion on ground surfaces such as gravel, mulch, grass, and dirt Teachers will be required to stand and walk for extended periods, as well as lift and carry educational materials and supplies Weather conditions may vary, including heat, rain, and cold temperatures
EDUCATOR SCHEDULE
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
JOB TYPE
This is a part-time, seasonal position. Educators typically work 6-18 hours per week. Some educators will opt to cross-train in another department if wanting to pick-up additional hours. This is an excellent opportunity for a retired teacher, or stay-at-home parent wanting to earn some extra money while their child is in school as the shifts occur within the school day in between morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
