Job Description

About St. Francis High School Founded in 1946, St. Francis High School is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young men, rooted in the Capuchin Franciscan tradition. Our mission is to develop faithful men, loving brothers, virtuous leaders, and dedicated learners through academic excellence and spiritual formation.
POSITION SUMMARY
St. Francis High School seeks qualified substitute teachers to serve on an on-call basis for short-term classroom assignments. Substitute teachers ensure continuity of instruction and support the school's academic and Franciscan mission by following the absent teacher's lesson plans and maintaining a structured, respectful classroom environment. Assignments are limited to no more than 30 consecutive instructional days in the same classroom.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver lesson plans prepared by the regular classroom teacher Maintain a classroom atmosphere consistent with school culture and expectations Accurately record and report student attendance Supervise students respectfully and ensure engagement with assigned work Uphold classroom rules and reinforce the school's Catholic and Franciscan values Provide coverage for homeroom, lunch, or school events as needed Maintain professional communication with students, faculty, and administration Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree Prior teaching experience or relevant classroom experience Strong classroom management and communication skills Technological proficiency, including Google Workspace and ChromeOS Completion of a background check and VIRTUS training
Preferred:
Familiarity with Franciscan values or prior experience in a Catholic school setting Experience using Blackbaud and digital learning platforms such as Go Guardian or Socrative Knowledge of adolescent development, particularly with high school boys Key Competencies Adaptability and flexibility in varied classroom environments Effective communication with students and faculty Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Respectful and inclusive demeanor with cultural sensitivity Empathy, patience, and a collaborative spirit Physical Requirements Must be able to move between classrooms (stairs required) Sit, stand, or walk for extended periods Occasionally lift or move items up to 20 lbs Work in environments with moderate noise levels How to
