Job Description
Substitute Teachers in the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District are considered District-wide resources and report to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Substitute Teachers will sign up to use the Absence and Substitute system upon hire to be notified of substitute openings which will allow them to select the grade level and school they wish to substitute for. Substitute teaching allows for schedule flexibility, allowing substitutes to choose where and when they want to work.
STARTING PAY RATES
$140 per day with MA Licensure
$115 per day without licensure
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate teaching certificate issued by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Is responsible to the principal or his/her designee; must work cooperatively with other professional personnel; may supervise the work of instructional learning assistants, teacher assistants, volunteers, student interns as assigned; evaluated by the principal or his/her designee.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY
To exhibit teaching skills which allow for a maximum of learning and a minimum of disciplinary action; maintains professional relationships with other teachers, students, staff, parents; demonstrates commitment to continued professional development.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain schedule availability to accept opportunities that arise.
Execute lesson plans consistent with the teacher's guidelines, and school curriculum.
Uphold an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience.
Familiarize yourself with emergency protocols, such as fire drills and lockdowns.
Adhere to all school policies and procedures.
INSTRUCTION
Carry out lesson plan instructions from the classroom teacher, and/or create lesson plans in absence of a prepared lesson.
Take attendance according to school procedure.
Assign homework according to teacher's lesson plans.
Supplement lesson plans with your own class activities if lessons end early.
Create and maintain a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and productive learning environment in accordance with school policies.
Complete a report for the absent Teacher and School Principal, including absences, progress with lesson plan, disciplinary actions, positive experiences, etc.
Create and maintain a stimulating physical classroom environment conducive to learning.
Establish and implement efficient classroom management procedures.
Continually evaluate and record various aspects and indicators of students' progress.
Demonstrate competency in his/her area of training and assignment.
Plans lessons effectively; showing evidence of daily and long term planning.
Make provisions for individual differences.
Encourage the development of independent work habits.
Use appropriate language for students to model.
Use varied instructional techniques to accomplish instructional objectives.
Implements the curriculum as prescribed by the school district.
Helps students evaluate their own work.
Communicate clearly, using precise language and acceptable oral expressions.
Monitors students' understanding lessons and adjusts teaching when appropriate.
Encourage a positive atmosphere for students, especially those with special needs.
Demonstrates a positive attitude.
Works to help students acquire a positive self-image.
