Job Description

Little Protégés Substitute Teacher The following is a list of activities and job functions for which the Substitute Teacher has primary responsibility. The Substitute Teacher will be required to perform other duties as needed to maintain the Center at an optimal level for all children, their families and all staff. When replacing a Lead Teacher Classroom- Locate curriculum and enrichment plans, and implement if necessary. Supervise and monitor age-appropriate activities. Supervise children-monitor, direct, protect, encourage, and nurture children. Ensure classroom is orderly and toys are placed in proper areas after use. Classroom centers are clearly defined and utilized appropriately. Maintain a safe, fun, healthy environment for children. Supervision is maintained at all times. Assist children in developing good habits including-tasks associated with toilet training and diaper changing and proper hand washing techniques. Exhibits proper communication skills-verbal and written. Child and Family Interaction Able to communicate with parents.

Must effectively communicate with parents verbally and through written daily sheet. Maintaining an environment that is tolerant and respectful of child and family cultures, values and differences. Report evidence of suspected abuse/neglect to director or local Department of Social Services. When replacing a Assistant Teacher Classroom-
  • Act as a helper and assistant to the Lead Teacher and assist in different activities associated with teaching.
  • Management of classroom and general supervision are the main responsibilities of an assistant teacher.
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of daily program of a Lead Teacher.
  • Classroom supervision in the brief absence of Lead Teacher is a task which has to be done occasionally.
Preparing a suitable learning environment for children, supplying them with necessary materials, etc. and to set up interest centers. Assist the Lead Teachers in carrying out various activities which lead to the emotional, intellectual and social development of children. To help children in developing good habits including that of personal hygiene and tasks associated with toilet training and diaper changing. Ensure classroom is orderly and toys are placed in proper areas after use. Reporting to the Lead Teacher in case of observance of problems with children. Assist children in proper hand washing techniques and distribution of meals and snacks. Help in maintaining a neat and clean classroom. Child and Family Interaction Able to communicate with parents.

Must effectively communicate with parents verbally. Maintaining an environment that is tolerant and respectful of child and family cultures, values and differences. Report evidence of suspected abuse/neglect to director or local Department of Social Services.
Physical Requirements:
Be capable of lifting a weight of up to 40 pounds. The ability to stretch & bend is a minimum expectation. Staff should also have the ability to push emergency evacuation cribs if necessary.
Conditions of Employment:
Meet health and medical guidelines as required by MD Law. Meet criteria to be determined qualified after criminal background and fingerprint checks. Arrives on time for the scheduled work day

Education/Qualifications:
High school diploma (or equivalent), be 18 years of age or older and complete necessary coursework needed for available position.
