Job Description

Sheppard Pratt School in Lanham (https://www.sheppardpratt.org/care-finder/sheppard-pratt-school-lanham/) is a nonpublic special education day school providing educational, therapeutic, and daily living services to students ages 5 to 21. Our tailored programs cater to individuals with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, and other health impairments, ensuring each student receives the support they need to thrive. Every aspect of our school is carefully crafted to meet the unique needs of our students. From the moment students enter our doors, they are greeted by the warm smiles of our dedicated staff and surrounded by sensory-engaging elements like bubble tables and 50-gallon fish tank.
As a Substitute Teacher you:
Instruct students according to lesson plans for academic work which have been prepared by regular teacher. Are responsible for the behavioral management of assigned students. Maintain orderly classroom learning environment. Communicate with students based on the understanding of the developmental needs of the specific child and/or adolescent student population served. Demonstrate knowledge of the age-specific student needs in instruction. Keep attendance records; may grade students' work. May assume responsibility for lunch duty, bus duty, or participate in field trips. May utilize audiovisual equipment.
Work Schedule:
This position is used on an as needed basis; however, candidates should have regular availability to provide coverage throughout the year as needed.
Requires:
Bachelor's degree and 1+ month of related teaching experience. Previous experience in a special education setting and/or with students with emotional/behavioral issues, and/or autism preferred.
