Job Description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area. Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.



Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment while providing continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher follows lesson plans and school policies, communicates effectively with students and staff, manages classroom behavior, takes attendance, and provides instructional support.

The successful candidate is adaptable and able to work effectively across different grade levels, subject areas, and classroom settings while supporting the academic, social, and spiritual development of students and upholding Catholic school values.



Job Responsibilities Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher. Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other school areas as assigned. Maintain a positive, orderly, safe, and respectful classroom environment. Encourage appropriate student behavior consistent with school expectations and Catholic values. Take attendance and complete required classroom records, assignments, or reports. Provide instructional assistance and clarification to students as needed. Communicate effectively with school administration, faculty, and staff regarding classroom needs, student concerns, or other matters. Adapt quickly to varying grade levels, subject areas, classroom routines, and instructional expectations. Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of students at all times. Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters. Follow all diocesan, school, classroom, emergency, and safety procedures and policies. Support the mission and values of the Catholic school through professional conduct and positive interactions with students. Perform other duties as assigned by school administration. Job Requirements Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred. Strong communication, classroom management, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to follow written lesson plans, classroom instructions, and school procedures. Ability to establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment. Dependable, flexible, patient, and professional demeanor. Ability to adapt to different grade levels, subjects, students, and classroom environments. Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with teachers, administrators, and school staff. Practicing Catholic preferred but not required. Commitment to supporting the mission, values, and educational philosophy of Catholic education. Must complete required background checks and Safe Environment training in accordance with diocesan policies.
