School of Health Sciences and Human Performance Location University of West Alabama Open Date Sep 16, 2026 Description Serve as athletic training assistant in the Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center under the direct supervision of BOC-certified athletic trainers on a daily basis, as assigned. If BOC certified, serve as an athletic trainer in the Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center on a daily basis as assigned. Perform administrative duties for the University athletic training program as assigned by the Director of Athletic Trainer & Sports Medicine. Perform other related tasks as required by the appropriate administrators. Promotion to Athletic Trainer upon documentation of BOC certification and State of Alabama licensure. About the
UWA Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center:
The University of West Alabama Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center was established in 1986 to organize and formalize efforts toward improvement of athletic health care in West Alabama. The Center provides athletic training services primarily to UWA athletics and the University faculty, staff, and students. Secondarily, it focuses on providing athletic training services to secondary school athletics and the West Alabama/East Mississippi area. Patients include those with musculoskeletal and orthopedic concerns ranging from pediatrics to the geriatric population. The Center is staffed primarily by 12 full-time certified athletic trainers and approximately 20 athletic training students. Support personnel includes fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons and non-surgical orthopedic physicians, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, biomechanists, health & physical educators, and others in related areas.

Qualifications Essential:
Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Health, Kinesiology, and/or related area. Eligibility for certification by the Board of Certification, Inc. Ability to work effectively as an athletic training assistant with a variety of patients under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer and with the administration, faculty, staff, and students from the University community. Ability to work effectively as an athletic training assistant with community patients in an on-campus athletic training clinical setting.
Desirable:
Master's degree in Health, Exercise Science, Sport Management, and/or Athletic Training. Certification by the Board of Certification, Inc. Upon BOC certification, the ability to clinically supervise students in the CAATE-accredited athletic training graduate program and preprofessional athletic training students while providing athletic training services to athletics. Upon BOC certification, the ability to teach courses in the field of athletic training, exercise science, health sciences or sport management at the undergraduate and/ or graduate level (if hired in a faculty position or if electing to teach for adjunct pay) Upon BOC certification, the ability to work effectively as an athletic trainer with a variety of patients and with the administration, faculty, staff, and students from the University community. If BOC Certified, the ability to work effectively as an athletic trainer with community patients in an on-campus athletic training clinical setting. Athletic training experience in football, basketball, baseball, and/or soccer in the college and/or high school setting.
