Under the direct supervision of the credentialed Student Services Director and in cooperation with the classroom teacher, performs the necessary duties in support of instructional activities for students who are enrolled in special education and require assistance throughout the day to access their curriculum. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; helping the student to take breaks and working with students to learn regulation techniques for class time and recess time, working with students to complete classwork and other duties that may be assigned. Note that this work may involve emotionally, intellectually, or physically challenged students. Following is information describing some examples of duties performed. Assists certificated personnel and IEP team members (speech therapist, special education teacher, in the conduct of lessons and implementation of various skill development activities.) Keeps routine records Confers as needed with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet the needs of students. Works with confidential records and maintains the confidentiality of such records Provide direct support to students based on a Positive Behavior Support Plan, such as redirection, prompting, verbal and non-verbal cues, and other interventions to assist students in building independence as a student in the classroom. We are willing to train the right person. Participates in pieces of training related to the position and/or specific student needs. Knowledge of correct English usage, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation, arithmetic, and general classroom procedures. Ability to assist with instructional activities in a classroom or special education program; understand the needs of students; perform routine clerical duties; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with teachers, students, and others contacted during the work. Possess positive classroom and group management skills. approximately 3 to 4 hours a day and 15 - 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday. School is closed for one week in October, November, February, and April, and two weeks in December.
