Job Description
This seasonal position will be a floater for our Summer Camp and to be on-call during the afterschool program.
Position Summary:
The Youth Development Professional/Program Assistant is the entry level in the Youth Development Professional series. This position supports the daily operations of the afterschool program, helping to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment where Club members can thrive.
Internal:
Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External:
Maintains contact with members, families, and the general public to give and obtain information, either in response to inquiries or as instructed by the supervisor.
Essential Functions:
Build authentic, respectful relationships with youth members through daily interaction and mentorship Assist in planning, setting up, and leading age-appropriate activities in areas such as arts, STEM, recreation, and character development Support youth in homework help, group games, and structured enrichment sessions Reinforce Club values, behavioral expectations, and mission through consistent modeling and encouragement. Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming program space Participate in ongoing training and development to grow within the Youth Development Professional series Collaborate with team members to ensure high-quality program delivery and member engagement May participate in special programs and/or events.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite, as well as other software that could be used to enhance a youth development Experience working with youth Ability to motivate and teach youth and supervise youth and maintain a safe environment Planning and organizational skills Ability to learn to organize and conduct programs for youth Familiarity with the principles of youth development Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and groups Ability to work towards positive outcomes Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to multitask and be flexible Bilingual Preferred (Spanish) High School Diploma or GED CPR and First Aid Certifications Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously, while maintaining health and safety precautions.
