Job Description

Purpose Statement The job of Instructional Assistant-Special Education is performed for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program by working with individual and/or small groups of special needs students; and by providing clerical support to teacher(s) and staff. Essential Functions Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. Assists students, individually or in small groups, with assessments, lesson assignments, or activities related to their IEP services for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching IEP goals. Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. Communicates with teachers and providers for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives. Conducts instructional activities assigned by the teacher or providers (e.g. classroom assignments, tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc.) for the purpose of supporting teachers and providers in the instructional process. Confers with professional service provider and/or teachers (e.g. planning and scheduling activities, instructional goals and objectives, student progress, and pertinent health or behavior issues, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives. Assists students with accomplishing learning plan goals (e.g. learning normal speech patterns, producing sounds, words and sentences; becoming self-reliant, relating to individuals and non- handicapped groups, and learning to sequence tasks, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring active and successful adherence to the learning plan. Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of assigned teacher for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts. Implements assigned sections of student behavior management plans (e.g. use of approved behavior modification or physical management techniques, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining appropriate behavior. Maintains classroom equipment, work area, manual and electronic files, records, and reports for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and providing a safe learning environment. Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, lunchroom, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Instructional Assistant - Special Education Provides support to the professional service provider and teacher in executing student Individual Education Plans for the purpose of improving students' academic success through a defined specialized plan. Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel. Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student(s), fights, etc.) for the purpose of providing immediate first aid, resolving immediate safety concerns, and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel (e.g. preparation of instructional materials, classroom management, entering grades, preparing requisitions, maintaining supplies, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies; and providing an environment conducive to learning. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Pay:

From $20.09 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
