TOWN OF ENFIELD JOB DESCRIPTION DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES - ENFIELD CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER TEACHER'S AIDE GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Duties involve the assisting of head teachers, teachers and with routine Child Care Program activities in accordance with prescribed rules and procedures of the Child Care Program. May be required to specialize in a certain area of learning.

Reports to ECDC Administration and Teacher.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Regular and punctual attendance; Works collaboratively with classroom staff to provide a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children aged 8 weeks through age 12. Assists with daily classroom routines including, rest time, meals, toileting, transitions and outdoor play while supporting children's social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Provides active supervision of children and uses positive guidance strategies to support their behavior and success in the classroom. Helps prepare and maintain classroom materials, learning centers, and documentation including observations and screenings. Communicates professionally with families, staff and administration and assumes classroom responsibilities in the absence of the teacher; performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL

AND ABILITY

Some knowledge in the teaching and training of children aged 8 weeks through age 12; ability to maintain records; ability to maintain orderly conduct; ability to communicate with children. Required to take 18 hours of professional development courses for full-time aides and 9 hours for part-time aides to meet state guidelines.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with children preferred but not required. Interest in early childhood education and willingness to learn and participate in required trainings are essential. Must meet applicable state licensing requirements and support program standards, including those related to accreditation.
