Community Job Sites Position Type:

Full-Time / School Year Calendar Position Overview Portland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and person-centered Paraeducator / Job Coach to support young adults with disabilities (ages 18-22) in our post-secondary transition program. This individual will be a part of the paraeducator bargaining unit. In this role, you will work directly with students in authentic community settings—including local businesses, non-profits, and municipal sites—helping them develop vocational skills, independence, workplace etiquette, and self-advocacy. You will serve as the crucial link between the school district, our adult learners, and community employment partners. The program is headquartered in a fully restored historic home in Portland on Main Street. Key Responsibilities

Direct Vocational Coaching:

Accompany and support students at local worksites, modeling job tasks, breaking down complex responsibilities, and gradually fading support as student independence grows.

Skill Building & Assessment:

Teach functional workplace skills, including time management, professional communication, task completion, public transportation navigation, and workplace safety.

Data Collection & Progress Monitoring:

Keep accurate daily logs on student progress toward Individualized Education Program (IEP) transition goals, behavior plans, and vocational benchmarks.

Community Partner Collaboration:

Act as a positive ambassador for Portland Public Schools by maintaining professional, encouraging relationships with local business supervisors and employees.

Travel & Navigation Support:

Transport or accompany students to community worksites and assist in teaching community mobility and safety skills.
