Two years of study at an institution of higher education or an associate's degree (or higher) preferred. Join Our Team The MSD of Mt. Vernon is seeking a positive, organized, and student-centered individual to serve as our Elementary Library Teacher Assistant. This position plays an important role in fostering a love of reading, supporting student learning, and creating a welcoming library environment where curiosity and imagination thrive. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, values collaboration, and takes pride in helping create meaningful learning experiences for students and staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
Student Learning Lead weekly library classes by reading aloud, facilitating literacy activities, and helping students select and check out library materials. Foster a love of reading by creating engaging and welcoming library experiences for all students. Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify and provide library resources that support classroom curriculum and instructional units. Coordinate school-wide reading challenges, literacy initiatives, and other programs that encourage lifelong reading habits. Operations Manage the daily circulation of library materials, including check-in/check-out procedures, overdue notices, and lost or damaged material payments. Process new library materials by labeling, barcoding, covering, and preparing items for circulation when vendor processing is not provided. Organize, shelve, and maintain an accurate and attractive library collection. Make recommendations for new books and materials that support student interests and curricular needs. Maintain accurate library records using the district's library management system. Financial and Administrative Assist with managing library budgets and tracking expenditures. Coordinate two annual book fairs from planning through completion. Organize and prepare end-of-year awards, including certificates, trophies, medals, and other recognition materials. Complete clerical tasks including correspondence, data entry, record keeping, displays, and inventory management. Schoolwide Support Supervise students during assigned morning, recess, lunch, bus, or other supervisory duties. Provide classroom coverage when needed and serve as an emergency substitute teacher when assigned. Support school-wide events, activities, and initiatives as requested by building administration. Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families while contributing to a welcoming and supportive school culture. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Library Media Specialist. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who: Enjoys working with elementary-aged children.
