Overview The Preschool Assistant works alongside the lead teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for preschool-aged children. The assistant helps support the daily classroom routine, learning activities, and overall needs of the children. Responsibilities may include assisting with classroom activities and lessons, supervising and engaging with children during play, helping with meals and snacks, assisting with toileting and other daily care needs, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, helping with transitions and routines, and stepping in wherever needed to support the teacher and classroom. The ideal candidate is dependable, patient, energetic, caring, and comfortable working as part of a team. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young children and is willing to jump in and help create a positive classroom environment. Responsibilities Assist the lead teacher with daily classroom activities and routines Supervise and actively engage with children during play, learning, and outdoor activities Support age-appropriate learning activities, crafts, and lesson plans Help maintain a safe, positive, and nurturing classroom environment Assist children with toileting, handwashing, meals, snacks, and other daily care needs Help with transitions throughout the day, including arrival, meals, nap/rest time, and dismissal Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary classroom Assist with cleaning toys, tables, floors, and other classroom areas as needed Help prepare materials and supplies for classroom activities Communicate and work cooperatively with the lead teacher and other staff Follow all center policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines Maintain appropriate supervision and awareness of children at all times Assist with maintaining accurate classroom records and documentation when needed Be willing to step in and assist other classrooms or staff when needed Provide children with encouragement, support, and positive guidance throughout the day Qualifications Proven experience working with young children in a daycare, preschool, or similar setting Knowledge of child development principles and early intervention strategies Strong classroom management skills with the ability to foster positive behavior and engagement Experience in curriculum development, literacy education, and classroom instruction tailored for toddlers Certification in first aid and CPR required; additional certifications in special education or childhood development are a plus Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and team members Familiarity with mandated reporting laws and child welfare best practices Ability to plan engaging lessons that incorporate physical education, math concepts, and sensory activities Experience working within private school or Montessori environments is advantageous Passion for early childhood education combined with patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for teaching young learners
Pay:
$13.00 - $18.00 per hour
