$16.00 per hour (see Assistant Master Agreement posted on the Monroe Public Schools website) Position Purpose Under the direction and supervision of certified staff, the Instructional Assistant provides individualized instructional, behavioral, functional, and/or personal support to a student with a disability in accordance with the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The Instructional Assistant works collaboratively with special education and general education staff to support the student's access to and participation in the educational program, promote progress toward IEP goals and objectives, encourage independence, and facilitate participation with peers in academic, nonacademic, and school-related activities to the maximum extent appropriate. Essential Job Functions Provides individualized assistance and support to a student with a disability as directed by certified staff and consistent with the student's IEP, including identified supplementary aids, services, accommodations, modifications, and supports. Assists with the implementation of instructional activities and strategies designed by certified staff to support progress toward the student's IEP goals and objectives. Reinforces academic skills and concepts in areas such as reading, language arts, mathematics, communication, and other curricular areas as directed by the supervising teacher. Supports the student in general education and special education environments, as appropriate, to promote access, participation, learning, and inclusion. Provides assistance during individual, small-group, and classroom activities while encouraging the development of independence and age-appropriate skills. Implements behavioral supports, positive behavioral interventions, and other strategies established by the student's educational team and/or identified in the student's IEP or behavior support plan. Observes and documents student performance, behavior, progress, or other information as directed by certified staff. Assists certified staff with instructional materials, classroom activities, assessments, and other educational supports as appropriate. Supports the student with functional skills and activities of daily living when required by the student's educational program, which may include mobility, positioning, toileting, feeding, hygiene, dressing, or other personal care needs. Assists with the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, communication systems, mobility devices, or other supports when required and after appropriate training. Supports the student during transitions throughout the school day and assists with safe movement within the school environment. Provides support and supervision during nonacademic and extracurricular activities, including lunch, recess, arrival and dismissal, transportation, assemblies, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities, as assigned. Accompanies the student on field trips and other school activities when assigned to provide necessary support and supervision. Follows established health, safety, emergency, behavioral, and student support procedures and protocols. Maintains the confidentiality of personally identifiable student information and educational records in accordance with District policy and applicable state and federal requirements. Communicates student-related observations, concerns, and information to the supervising teacher and/or other designated staff. Works cooperatively with general education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and other staff involved in supporting the student. Encourages student independence and avoids providing assistance beyond the level necessary for the student to access and participate in the educational environment. Performs duties under the direction and supervision of appropriately certified staff and does not independently develop, modify, or determine the student's educational program or IEP services. Additional Duties Assist special education, pupil services, and building staff as needed and as appropriate to the assignment. Participate in training necessary to safely and appropriately implement the supports required for the assignment. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Ability to support students while promoting independence, dignity, inclusion, and age-appropriate participation. Ability to learn and appropriately implement student-specific accommodations, modifications, supplementary aids and services, behavioral supports, and other strategies identified by the educational team. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student records, educational information, health information, and other personally identifiable information. Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to student needs while following established District procedures. Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional, and cooperative working relationships with students, families, staff, and others encountered in the course of work. Ability to accurately observe, document, and report information to supervising staff. Ability to use computers and common software applications as required. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Physical and Mental Demands / Work Environment Works in school building and classroom environments and may work outdoors during student activities. Must be able to provide the level of physical assistance reasonably required by the assignment, which may include assisting with mobility, positioning, transfers, personal care, or other activities of daily living. May be required to respond to student behavioral, sensory, communication, medical, or physical needs in accordance with established plans, procedures, and training. Must be able to maintain appropriate supervision and respond to situations requiring timely assistance to ensure student safety.

Qualifications Profile Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position may be considered.
Typical qualifications include:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Completion of 60 or more college credit hours or a passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment required. Experience working with students with disabilities preferred. Experience providing individualized academic, behavioral, functional, or personal support to students preferred. Ability and willingness to participate in student-specific training required for the assignment. Must meet applicable District and Intermediate School District requirements for paraprofessional personnel assigned to special education programs.
