Job Description

Niles Community Schools Kindergarten Instructional Assistant September 29, 2026 Position for the 2026-2027school year This is a part-time position scheduled for Monday-Friday 9am-2:30pm Reports to Howard-Ellis Principal (or designee) Niles Community Schools is looking for a dynamic Kindergarten Instructional Assistant. Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community.
Required Qualifications:

Completed two years of college (60 hours) OR Obtained an Associate's Degree or higher OR Pass a formal assessment of knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics, within 60 days of employment or as directed by the building principal. Currently, our district uses the WorkKeys Proficiency certificate for this standard. This assessment is delivered through Lake Michigan College or Southwest Michigan College. The initial assessment will be at the employee's expense. A passing score of 460 is required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (non-prioritized): Provide individual, small group, and large group student instruction within the context of the classroom Assist teachers in classroom management, maintaining discipline and other non-instructional functions, as needed Assist with the organization and preparation of classroom materials and behavior plans Administer and maintain assessment and other student records as outlined Prospective employees will receive consideration without discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation or gender identity), disability, age (except as authorized by law), religion, military status, ancestry, or genetic information (collectively, "Protected Classes") in its educational programs or activities.
