ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Displays a desire to work with students with disabilities.

Serves as a role model.

Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.

Assists teacher(s) with a school environment where individual differences are respected.

Responds to students as individuals.

Helps maintain cohesiveness in the school environment.

Assists with supplementary work for students and supervises independent study in the school environment.

Uses current technology for instructional management needs.

Assists teacher(s) with student discipline and instruction (including reading, writing and math).

Assists in maintaining students involvement in appropriate tasks.

Provides assistance/preparation with individual program materials.

Prepares, organizes and accepts responsibility for instructional role.

Works with teachers in communicating the philosophy, goals and objectives of a given program.

Participates with teacher(s) in team meetings/parent conferences when requested and as determined to be appropriate by the teacher and/or principal.

Reinforces therapy goals.

Maintains student confidentiality.

Acquires working knowledge of student IEPs on a "need to know" basis.

Demonstrates confidentiality in the education profession.

Participates in staff meetings and other functions.

Develops/maintains competence through in-service and university courses.

Assists with supervision before, during and after school as assigned.

Assists teachers with implementation of IEP goals.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other duties as assigned or directed by the immediate supervisor.

Parental contact as assigned or directed by the immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

With assistance, lifts and carries children up to 150 pounds.

Pushes wheelchairs up to 170 pounds.

Lifts wheelchairs up to 70 pounds.

Changes diapers of students, as necessary.

Changes students clothing, as necessary.

Escorts students to handicapped restroom.

Assists students with toileting needs, as necessary.

Provides female student hygiene needs, as necessary.

Provides spoon feeding for students, as necessary.

Restrains students, as necessary.

SAFETY AND HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge and use of universal hygiene precautions.

Follows ergonomic lifting practices.
