Job Description

Job Overview Join our vibrant early childhood education team as a full-time Assistant Teacher in our play-based preschool program! In this dynamic role, you will support Lead Teachers in creating a nurturing, engaging, and educational environment for young learners. Your enthusiasm and dedication will help foster a love of learning, promote social-emotional development, and ensure each child's safety and well-being. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children's early development while working collaboratively with a passionate team committed to educational excellence. Responsibilities Assist Lead Teachers in implementing play-based curriculum plans aligned with early childhood education standards, including literacy, math, and social skills development. Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and rest periods to ensure safety and positive behavior. Support classroom management by encouraging respectful interactions and guiding children through behavior management strategies. Maintain classroom organization including preparing materials for upcoming activities. Collaborate with teaching staff to develop mentoring opportunities for new team members and participate in ongoing professional development. Other duties as assigned. Skills Strong understanding of childhood development principles and early childhood education best practices Experience working with young children in classroom settings or childcare environments Knowledge of special education strategies, behavior management techniques, and classroom behavior management tools Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues; English proficiency required. Familiarity with child care standards and regulations such as the VA Regulations. First aid and CPR certification to ensure child safety at all times (provided by HMCDS).
