Job Description

The Village School of North Bennington is seeking a full-time High Needs Teaching Assistant (Paraeducator) to work 1:1 with an early elementary student within a single classroom for the 2026/2027 school year. The Teaching Assistant (TA) will work under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher and/or the Special Educator to implement the curriculum and to provide educational, social-emotional, and toileting support to the student. This TA will be responsible for accompanying the student to and throughout all transitions to and from the homeroom, as well as accompanying the student to all Specials (Music, Gym, Library, and Art).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY DUTIES
Work 1:1 with a young student to provide targeted interventions, provide general academic support, toileting assistance, and provide some de-escalation, as needed. Collect behavior data and monitor student progress, as needed and under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher and/or Special Educator Collaborate with Classroom Teacher, Special Educator, and School Counselor to provide academic and/or behavior support for students, as needed. Actively participate in Recess Duty in order to support student's social skills within the school setting. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School and/or Assistant Head of School
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent, required. Associates or Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, strongly preferred. Experience working with children (aged 6-8) with high needs, required Experience working with children in a school or similar setting, strongly preferred Must be certified in Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI) or willing to become certified as soon as possible Must demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
