Job Description

Position Title:

Coyote Check and Connect Support Paraeducator

Building:

Columbia High School

Non-Continuing / Temporary 26-27 School Year

Schedule:

30 minutes per day, 5 days per week

Position Summary:

The Coyote Check and Connect Support Paraeducator provides targeted Tier II support to a small group of identified high school students as part of Columbia School District's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This role focuses on improving attendance, behavior, and social-emotional well-being through consistent daily check-ins and relationship-based mentoring.

The paraeducator will serve as a trusted adult who connects students to school, monitors progress, celebrates successes, and helps address barriers that interfere with academic and personal growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct daily Check and Connect meetings with assigned students (approximately 30 minutes total per day).

Provide positive encouragement, problem-solving, and support around attendance, academic engagement, and social-emotional needs.

Track and record student data using the Check and Connect data collection system to monitor progress and identify trends.

Communicate as needed with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families to coordinate student support.

Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and outcomes.

Participate in MTSS meetings or debriefs as requested to share data and observations.

Model professionalism, empathy, and positive engagement consistent with Columbia School District values.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; prior paraeducator experience preferred.

Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.

Strong communication, listening, and organizational skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Basic data-entry or computer skills to record Check and Connect progress.

Experience or interest in working with youth exhibiting attendance, behavioral, or social-emotional challenges.

Work Schedule and Compensation:
Hours:

30 minutes per day, 5 days per week (before, during, or after school as assigned).

Pay Rate:

Per the classified pay scale.

Position Term:

Non-continuing / temporary; position will be reviewed at the end of the assignment period.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated by the Columbia High School Principal in accordance with district policy for classified employees.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Lifting:

The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
