Job Description :
The Recess/Cafeteria Supervisor & Classroom Support staff member plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, supportive, and positive environment for all students during non-instructional times, as well as providing meaningful assistance within the classroom to support student learning. This individual must be proactive, approachable, and solution-oriented while maintaining professional conduct at all times.
Primary Responsibilities :
Recess/Cafeteria Supervision:
Ensure student safety and positive behavior by maintaining active, visible supervision in all assigned areas. Engage with students in a friendly, supportive, and approachable manner, promoting an inclusive and respectful environment. Encourage positive peer interactions and address inappropriate behaviors using a solutions-focused mindset, guiding students toward better choices and conflict resolution. Remain attentive and present at all times — cell phone use is strictly prohibited during supervision unless in an emergency situation. Monitor for unsafe behavior or situations and intervene promptly and appropriately. Ensure smooth transitions to and from recess and lunch periods. Manage minor incidents independently and report significant concerns, unsafe behavior, or major incidents to administration promptly. Promote healthy habits, respectful table manners, and clean-up practices in the cafeteria.
Classroom Support:
Assist the teacher in creating and maintaining a positive, engaging, and productive classroom environment. Work with individual students or small groups as directed to reinforce learning objectives and support academic progress. Help monitor student behavior and engagement to ensure all students remain on task and demonstrate respect toward peers and staff. Provide support to students who need additional guidance in understanding directions, staying organized, or managing behavior. Support the teacher with classroom management strategies to ensure a calm and structured environment conducive to learning.

Serve as a positive role model, exemplifying school values such as empathy, respect, and responsibility. Communicate promptly and professionally with staff and administration about any student or safety concerns. Maintain confidentiality and handle student interactions and incidents with discretion and professionalism. Continuously observe and assess student behavior and engagement to adapt support strategies as needed. Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to enhance skills and effectiveness. The Recess/Cafeteria Supervisor & Classroom Support staff member is essential in fostering a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment for all students. This position requires reliability, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to promoting student growth and success — both academically and socially.
