The A-List Tutoring Services is seeking an exceptional, experienced English and reading tutor to provide personalized academic support for a 6th-grade student in Beverly Hills. We are looking for a warm, engaging, and highly dependable educator who can strengthen the student's reading comprehension, writing skills, and overall confidence in English Language Arts while providing homework assistance and academic guidance. This position is ideal for a tutor who enjoys working with middle school students and understands how to make reading and writing engaging, build strong foundational skills, and encourage greater independence with schoolwork. The tutor will work closely with the student in a private, one-on-one setting, providing individualized instruction tailored to the student's needs, learning style, and school curriculum. Professionalism, discretion, and a thoughtful, white-glove approach to working with private families are essential.

Schedule:

1-2 days per week, with flexibility based on the family's availability. Subjects & Responsibilities The tutor will focus primarily on English Language Arts and reading, with additional homework support as needed, including: Reading comprehension and critical thinking Vocabulary development and grammar Writing skills, sentence structure, and paragraph development Essay writing and written assignments Literature analysis and understanding assigned reading Spelling, punctuation, and language mechanics English homework, projects, and test preparation General homework assistance and assignment organization Study skills, time management, and academic confidence The ideal candidate will help the student become a stronger, more independent reader and writer while reinforcing skills taught in school. Sessions should be engaging, structured, and supportive, with an emphasis on helping the student understand the material rather than simply completing assignments. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate: Has experience tutoring or teaching elementary or middle school students, particularly grades 5-8 Has a strong background in English, reading comprehension, and writing instruction Is patient, encouraging, and able to make learning enjoyable Can adapt lessons to the student's individual strengths and areas for improvement Is comfortable balancing targeted skill development with day-to-day homework support Encourages organization, accountability, and independent learning Has a relatable, engaging, and approachable personality, with an ability to connect with middle school students and understand their interests, communication styles, and learning preferences Brings a fresh, creative approach to tutoring and can make reading, writing, and homework feel engaging rather than like an extension of the school day Can build a positive mentor-like relationship while maintaining professionalism, appropriate boundaries, and academic accountability Communicates professionally with parents regarding progress and learning goals Is punctual, reliable, organized, and proactive Understands the importance of discretion and confidentiality when working with private families Qualifications Previous tutoring or classroom teaching experience preferred Strong command of English grammar, reading comprehension, and writing Experience with middle school English Language Arts curricula Background in literacy instruction, writing coaching, or educational support is a plus Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Professional references available upon request Ability to commute to Beverly Hills for in-person sessions Why Join The A-List Tutoring Services?
