Arise Reading Co. is a small literacy center in downtown Vacaville providing individualized and small-group reading intervention for students in grades K-8. We focus on explicit, systematic, structured literacy instruction to help students strengthen foundational reading skills and build confidence as readers. We are growing and looking for a caring, dependable Part-Time Reading Tutor to join our team. This position will begin with a small number of daytime students, with the opportunity for additional hours as enrollment grows. Position Responsibilities The Reading Tutor will: Provide 1:1 and small-group reading instruction to students in grades K-8 Follow individualized instructional plans and materials provided by Arise Reading Co. Deliver explicit, systematic instruction in areas such as phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, encoding/spelling, fluency, and comprehension Create a positive, patient, and encouraging learning environment Record student attendance and brief session notes in TutorBird within 24 hours of each session Communicate student progress and concerns with the owner as needed Maintain professionalism and reliability when working with students and families
Qualifications Required:
Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students Knowledge of or experience with Science of Reading and structured literacy practices Experience with a structured reading program or approach such as Orton-Gillingham, IMSE, Wilson, Barton, LETRS, UFLI, or a similar evidence-based program Strong understanding of foundational reading skills and phonics Patient, dependable, organized, and comfortable working with students who may struggle with reading Ability to work independently while following provided instructional plans Reliable transportation to our downtown Vacaville location Must be able to pass a Live Scan fingerprinting and background check
Preferred:
Current or former teacher, reading interventionist, special education teacher, instructional aide, or education professional Teaching credential or currently enrolled in a teacher preparation/education program Orton-Gillingham or structured literacy training Experience supporting students with dyslexia or other reading difficulties Schedule This is a very part-time position to start, with approximately 3-8 hours per week expected initially. We are primarily looking for someone with weekday daytime availability . There is potential for the position and number of students to grow over time as Arise Reading Co. continues to expand. Compensation Compensation is based on the type of session being taught: 1:1 tutoring: $30/hour Small group of 2 students: $35/hour Small group of 3-5 students: $45/hour Instructional plans, curriculum materials, printing, and teaching resources are provided. Pay:
$30.00 - $45.00 per hour Expected hours: 4.0 - 8.0 per week
