Position Overview:

APEX Global Academy is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable High School English and History Tutor to provide in-person instruction part time. The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator with a strong background in English and history and a track record of helping students succeed in their school curriculum. You will be responsible for offering personalized in-person tutoring, building students' reading, writing and critical thinking skills, and making sure students are well prepared for their exams and assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring in high school English (literature, reading comprehension, grammar and essay writing) and history (U.S. history, world history and related social studies).
• Help students understand key literary works, historical events, themes and concepts.
• Develop tailored lessons that address each student's needs, covering both content and skills such as close reading, analytical writing and historical analysis.
• Support students with homework, essays, research papers and test preparation.
• Foster a supportive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to think critically and express their ideas clearly.
• Use a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate students with different learning styles, including English language learners.
• Monitor and assess student progress, offering feedback and guidance to help them improve their academic performance.
• Collaborate with APEX staff to ensure a comprehensive support system for students' academic success.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in English, History, Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Teaching certification or credential.
• Experience tutoring or teaching English and/or history at the high school level.
• Strong knowledge of the subject matter and ability to teach critical thinking and analytical writing skills.
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable transportation to Derby, CT.
• Passion for working with high school students and inspiring them to engage with reading, writing and history.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with curriculum development or instructional design in English or history.
• Proven success in helping students improve their performance in English and history courses.
• Experience working with international students or English language learners.
