Job Description
Noor Lyra Tutoring | St. Cloud, FL Starting at $35 per hour | Independent contractor | Flexible, part-time, in-home
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Noor Lyra Tutoring is seeking a skilled, thoughtful educator to support a young learner's early-elementary academic development. This opportunity requires experience supporting children with childhood apraxia of speech or comparable motor-speech and communication needs. We are looking for an educator who can recognize a child's understanding even when spoken responses are difficult—and adapt instruction so the child can participate, build confidence, and demonstrate learning. Noor intentionally matches educators to students. This assignment calls for strong academic teaching ability, careful observation, patience, and the judgment to adjust instruction to a learner's communication profile. Our educators bring warmth and high professional standards to every session.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide personalized, in-home early-learning and early-elementary instruction that builds foundational academic skills, engagement, and confidence. Adapt lessons to the learner's strengths, interests, academic needs, and communication profile. Use visual supports, hands-on materials, modeling, thoughtful pacing, repetition, and multiple ways to respond, including pointing, selecting, or demonstrating. Allow adequate response time and distinguish difficulty expressing an answer from difficulty understanding a concept. Build a calm, encouraging learning environment with clear expectations and manageable challenges. Track academic goals and document session activities, progress, barriers, and next steps. Communicate clearly with the family and Noor Lyra Tutoring, following through consistently on agreed plans. Incorporate appropriate communication-friendly learning approaches and family-provided SLP recommendations within the academic educator's scope.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Documented direct professional or instructional experience working with children with significant communication needs, with strong preference given to candidates with specific childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) or motor-speech experience. General tutoring experience or comfort with special needs alone is not sufficient. Strong ability to teach early-learning and foundational academic skills through clear, developmentally appropriate instruction. A calm, patient, emotionally intelligent teaching style. Ability to adapt instruction and response formats when verbal expression is difficult. Strong observation, organization, documentation, and family communication skills. Dependability, professional judgment, respect for family privacy, and consistent follow-through. Ability to travel to in-home sessions in St. Cloud, FL.
STRONGLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Florida-licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, appropriately credentialed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant working within applicable supervision requirements, ESE/special-education educator, or early-childhood professional with substantial direct experience supporting children with childhood apraxia of speech or comparable motor-speech/communication needs. An SLP license is strongly preferred, not required. Demonstrated pediatric CAS/motor-speech experience combined with strong early-academic teaching ability. A license or credential alone does not replace direct relevant experience. Experience using visual supports or a learner's established communication system during academic instruction. Experience collaborating with families and other professionals while maintaining clear role boundaries. Experience setting individualized academic goals and documenting measurable progress.
ROLE SCOPE
This is an academic educator and tutoring role, not a speech-language pathology position. The assignment does not include diagnosing communication disorders, treating childhood apraxia of speech, or providing speech therapy. The educator may use communication-friendly educational supports and reinforce appropriate family-provided SLP recommendations during academic learning. Any clinical services would require appropriate independent licensure and a separate engagement outside this tutoring assignment.
