Position Summary Rutherford County Schools is seeking dedicated and compassionate certified teachers to serve as Alternative Learning Program (ALP) Tutors at each of its three middle schools. The ALP Tutor will provide individualized academic instruction, behavioral support, and social-emotional guidance to students who are assigned to the Alternative Learning Program. This position is designed to help students stay engaged in their education, develop positive behaviors, and successfully transition back to their regular classroom environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide targeted instruction aligned with North Carolina Standard Course of Study for assigned students. Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents to support student learning goals. Implement behavior management strategies that promote accountability, responsibility, and personal growth. Maintain accurate records of attendance, assignments, and student progress. Develop individualized learning plans and modify instructional materials to meet diverse student needs. Create a structured, supportive, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning. Communicate regularly with school staff and families about student progress and behavioral expectations. Support school-wide efforts to improve student engagement, attendance, and academic outcomes. Participate in professional development as required by the district.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Certification:
Valid North Carolina Teaching License in an appropriate content area.
Experience:
Prior teaching experience at the middle school level preferred; experience working with at-risk or behaviorally challenged students strongly desired.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills. Ability to design engaging lessons and adjust instruction for diverse learners. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Commitment to fostering a positive, restorative approach to student discipline and growth. Work Schedule Part-time position, 3 days per week. Work schedule may vary based on school needs and student assignments. Compensation Hourly rate of $25 per hour No benefits are associated with this position.
