Application submissions for "[POOL]" positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. • Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain their active status in the pool. Provides academic support to students in designated courses through individual appointments, embedded tutoring, drop-in assistance, and/or group learning opportunities, offered in both online and face-to-face settings.

Essential Duties:

1. Meets with students during scheduled times to assist them in learning course material. 2. Facilitates student learning by establishing a supportive environment and helping students identify gaps in their understanding of course concepts. 3.

Group/Embedded Tutors:

Promotes group tutoring session attendance by regularly notifying students of session schedule. Implements group interaction activities to make sessions helpful to all students. 4. Demonstrates and models a variety of learning strategies and academic skills, helping students understand both how to learn and what to learn. 5. Offers a variety of approaches or methods to help students understand course concepts. 6. Promotes students' self-reliance by referring them to textbooks, notes, and other course information sources, and demonstrating how to use them. 7. Ask open-ended questions to check for students' understanding, giving students adequate time to think. Avoids lecturing on course content and doing students' homework. 8. Works with students to develop effective problem-solving and critical thinking strategies. 9. Completes scheduled tutor training and participates in College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification requirements to support effective, student-centered tutoring practices. 10. Collaborates with the Library & Learning Center Manager to help plan and co-facilitate training, presentations, and shadowing sessions that prepare new tutors for success. 11. Assesses own work performance and adherence to tutoring objectives by completing regular self-evaluations process with Library & Learning Center Manager. 11. Maintains regular communication with the Library & Learning Center Manager to discuss tutoring issues and receive assistance and feedback. 12. Creates and curates learning materials, activities, and resources under the guidance of the Library & Learning Center Manager to support student success and facilitate knowledge sharing among peer tutors. 13. Supports students in achieving their academic goals by serving as a resource and referring them to appropriate academic and student support services when necessary. 14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to carry on routine conversations.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in the Learning Centers, classroom/lab areas, or online, with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Education and Experience Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. In order to be considered, your application must clearly show you meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Successful completion of the course(s) you wish to tutor, typically demonstrated by earning a grade of A or B within the past one to two years. Instructor recommendation from an LBCC faculty member in the subject area. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and Skills:

Requires strong academic competence in the courses tutored, as determined by the course instructor and unofficial transcript. Must have well-developed interpersonal communication skills, group facilitation skills, and rapport building skills. Prefer candidates who are knowledgeable about study skills and group communication theory.

Abilities:

Requires the ability to independently perform the essential responsibilities of the position. Must have the ability to learn and employ effective tutoring methods to meet tutor program objectives. Requires the ability to respond sensitively to diverse student needs. Requires ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written English. Compensation Information:

All Part-time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position's grade. Placement at a higher step on the salary schedule is not negotiable. Step increases are subject to eligibility, and only take place at the end of the Fiscal Year in July if approved and submitted by the employee's supervisor of record. Hours worked in more than one position or department cannot be combined for step advancement. Part-time Classified employees are paid once monthly, on the last day of the month. Athletic Trainers, Farm Aides, Sign Language Interpreters, Transcribers, and Translators can find individual hourly rate information at the bottom of the Salary Schedule. LBCC offers a pay incentive to eligible employees who demonstrate proficiency in conversational Spanish when evaluated and formally certified by a college-approved professional or agency. Eligibility to apply for and receive bilingual pay incentives for Spanish and languages other than English are subject to the provisions of Administrative Rule 6025-06.
