JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction and supervision of the Athletic Manager, this part-time position is to enforce the rules of flag football while creating a positive, fun, and safe game atmosphere while encouraging sportsmanship with the participants. All games are held on Saturdays and the ability to work multiple games in a row is required. Make up games may require the season to be extended. Part Time Benefits Part-Time employees receive free membership to our Lifestyles Fitness Center and the Pelican Harbor water park. Part-Time staff working 520-999.75 hours in the current year, will earn 16 hours of Personal Time Off to use in the following year. Part-Time staff who work 1000+ hours in the current year will earn 32 hours of Personal Time Off to use in the following year. Eligible for mandatory pension plan based on 1000 hours or more worked per year. Free CPR/AED training. Employee Recognition Program Employee payroll portal.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

Minimum age of 16 years of age or older. Must be able to work weekends. Must have a valid driver's license and use of a vehicle. Must have the ability to work independently. CPR/First Aid certified or the willingness to obtain certification within first six months of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

An ability to establish a rapport with children, participants, parents, coaches, and staff. An ability to work effectively with the public and staff and exercise good judgment in dealing with people. Previous experience in officiating youth athletic programs would be preferred. An ability to apply knowledge of Football or Flag Football and proper techniques to children of all ages in a group setting. An ability to apply knowledge of proper safety requirements and precautions to children ages 5 & up. An ability to display excellent customer service skills. An ability to maintain self-control and composure in high stress and/or difficult situations. Possess enthusiasm and drive with a desire to accomplish goals and objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide instruction, maintain control, and promote good sportsmanship at all times during games. Treat children in a positive manner that encourages individuality and self-esteem. Thorough knowledge of Flag Football will be necessary for programs to be run efficiently and effectively. Familiarize with and abide by all park district policies and procedures. Attend mandatory referee and safety trainings from the Park District. Complete other duties as assigned by the Athletic Manager. Wear the required uniform in order to be clearly identified as a park district employee. Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District's safety program. Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.

Must have the ability to read, write, and organize materials. Must be able to follow directions and relate to people in a professional manner. Must exhibit good safety awareness and judgment. Strong voice and listening skills. Adjust cognitive thoughts from adult to child; and children to adults. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. FLSA This is a part-time hourly non-exempt position. HOURS Hours will be set by the Athletic Manager and will require weekends and may vary by season. Thank you for your interest in this position!
