Consultant Program Supervisors for Tufts Teacher Education Program, 2026-2027 school year
Description:
The Tufts Middle and High School Master of Arts in Teaching program, through rigorous coursework and extensive student teaching, prepares students to earn their Initial License in Teaching in Massachusetts. Our program prepares future history, English, mathematics, sciences, and world language educators to inspire and lead in public schools and diverse learning environments. We are seeking experienced Program Supervisors to oversee our Middle and High School Education MAT students. Program Supervisors mentor our Teaching Candidates (student teachers) during the spring Practicum semester in Boston-area public schools. As professionals in the field of education—whether currently (or formerly) working in middle and high schools, institutions of higher education, or community-based programs — you will play a vital role in supporting our Teaching Candidates during their practicum semester in the spring. Your expertise and mentorship are crucial in shaping competent, innovative educators who are prepared to inspire and educate students. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with
DESE CAP
regulations while supporting students throughout their education journey. Part-time educators, retired teachers, and other professionals with teaching experience are encouraged to apply. A flexible schedule during school hours is necessary, as is a car for access to schools not located near public transportation.
Key Responsibilities Conduct Observations:
Perform at least five structured observations of each candidate at their teaching placements during the practicum semester (one in December and four in January
  • April).
Provide Constructive Feedback:
Following each observation, offer meaningful, actionable feedback to support candidates' professional growth. Your insights should reflect your expertise in teaching and learning and include specific suggestions tailored to their lesson plans, delivery, and classroom environment. Write Formative and Summative Assessments in collaboration with Supervising Practitioner (mentor teacher).
Complete Assessment Documentation:
Record observation data, ratings, and comments accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with program and state requirements. Support Reflective Practice Engage candidates in reflective discussions about their teaching practices, encouraging ongoing development and self-awareness in their growth as educators. Offer Field-Specific Insights Share your perspectives on current trends, effective techniques, and real-world applications in schooling and teaching and learning, enriching candidates' understanding and preparing them for diverse educational contexts. Work closely with the Program Director and CAP Manager to make sure observations meet standards and that candidates receive comprehensive, supportive evaluations aligned with state licensing and certification expectations. Facilitate communication between faculty, students, and administrative staff
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in Education or a related field preferred
  • Background in K-12 education
  • Proven experience in program supervision within K-12 or within teacher preparation programs
  • Familiarity with DESE (Dept of Elementary and Secondary Education) standards and practices
  • Knowledge of CAP (Candidate Assessment of Performance) required
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, Supervising Practitioners and Teaching Candidates (Tufts faculty convene the supervising team periodically throughout the practicum for virtual trainings and discussions)
