Job Overview River City Coatings and Castle Manufacturing are looking for a metal manufacturing draftsman to translate conceptual engineering designs into precise 2D and 3D technical drawings and shop plans for metal fabrication. They ensure accuracy, prepare CAD files for CNC machinery, and collaborate directly with production teams to build structural steel, sheet metal, and industrial components.

Key Responsibilities CAD Design & Detailing:

Create highly accurate 2D and 3D drawings for metal components, assemblies, and structural frameworks using programs like Solidworks or AutoCAD.

Manufacturing Preparation:

Generate detailed shop drawings and bill of materials (BOM) needed by welders and fabricators on the production floor.

CNC Programming:

Translate 3D models into cut files or G-code for industrial machinery, such as waterjets, plasma, and laser cutters.

Design Validation:

Review drawings for manufacturability, ensuring all parts adhere to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with project managers and manufacturing teams to ensure drawings meet project timelines and resolve design inconsistencies.

Core Requirements Software Proficiency:

Strong, working knowledge of 3D modeling and 2D drafting software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Draftsight, Tekla).

Material & Process Knowledge:

Deep understanding of welding, sheet metal forming, machining, and material properties (e.g., steel, aluminum).

Technical Math Skills:

Ability to calculate dimensions, scale drawings, and read complex engineering blueprints.

Education & Experience:

Typically requires an Associate's Degree in drafting/design or 1 to 5 years of professional mechanical or structural drafting experience.
