Engineering Manager About Us AEC Inc. is a full-service engineering firm specializing in manufacturing products and aviation components to custom specifications. We deliver commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional building projects. We value precision, accountability, and continuous learning, and we are looking for a drafter who wants to build a long-term career with us. At AEC Inc., teamwork is at the heart of everything we do. You will collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and fellow drafters in a supportive hands-on environment. We foster a culture where every team member's ideas are welcome, questions are encouraged, and learning is shared. Our commitment to inclusivity means you'll be respected for your unique background and perspectives, with guidance and mentorship available at every stage. We celebrate our successes together and work through challenges openly, so you'll always feel supported as you grow with us. The Role We are hiring an MEP Building Drafter to turn engineering and architectural concepts into accurate, code-compliant technical drawings for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This is not a "trace the sketch" position. You will understand why a duct is sized the way it is, how a panel schedule ties to a load calculation, and where a plumbing riser has to go to pass plan review.

We are looking for someone with a solid grasp of drafting, AutoCAD proficiency, and an eagerness to keep learning. You will receive hands-on mentorship from our team, including regular check-ins with a senior drafter or engineer, shadowing opportunities on live MEP projects, and structured training sessions to help you develop new skills. We will invest in your growth with ongoing feedback and support tailored to your progress. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed MEP drawings, including floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, sections, details, and schedules, from sketches, markups, and engineering calculations. Develop HVAC layouts (ductwork, piping, equipment placement, controls coordination) Produce electrical drawings (power, lighting, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, low-voltage and fire alarm coordination) Draft plumbing plans (domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas, fixture layouts, isometrics and risers) Build and maintain 3D models and BIM content, and coordinate with architectural and structural models to identify and resolve clashes. Ensure all drawings comply with applicable city, county, state, and federal building codes, and with company and industry drafting standards. Revise drawings promptly based on comments from engineers, architects, clients, and plan reviewers. Prepare permit submittal sets and respond to plan-check corrections. Perform quality-control checks on your own work, checking dimensions, scales, annotations, and sheet consistency. Maintain organized project files, title blocks, templates, and revision logs. Communicate clearly with engineers, architects, contractors, and field personnel to resolve questions and keep projects on schedule. Required Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge and skill in drafting. We value what you can do over where you learned it. Formal education is welcome but not required if you can prove your skills. Hands-on proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit (MEP experience preferred); a portfolio or work samples will be requested Working knowledge of MEP software systems and how they are represented on drawings Familiarity with model codes and standards such as the IBC, IMC, IPC, NEC, IECC, ADA, and NFPA, and a willingness to learn local amendments Familiarity with drafting standards (ANSI, ISO, and the National CAD Standard) Strong math and geometry skills: scales, angles, dimensions, and unit conversions Strong spatial reasoning, with the ability to visualize how 2D drawings become 3D structures and systems Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy Clear written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent with coursework in math, geometry, trigonometry, computer science, or technical drawing Associate degree or certificate in drafting, CADD, or a related technical field (or equivalent self-taught experience and portfolio) Experience with Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, or Bluebeam Experience with BIM coordination workflows and clash detection Certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) or similar credential Prior experience in an engineering firm, design-build firm, or contractor environment Experience preparing permit and plan-review submittals Skills and Qualities We Value Curiosity and a drive to learn the engineering behind the drawings Ownership of your work, including catching your own errors before others do Receptiveness to feedback and mentorship Collaborative, professional communication with multidisciplinary teams Reliability and sound judgment under deadline pressure What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience Mentorship and on-the-job training in MEP design and code compliance Software training, certification support, and tuition or exam reimbursement Clear path to advancement into Designer or Project Coordinator roles How to Apply Please submit the following to: humanresources@aec-inc.com Resume Portfolio or 3 to 5 sample drawings (redact any confidential information) A brief note on your software experience and what draws you to MEP drafting Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. After you apply, our team will contact selected candidates within two weeks to schedule an initial phone or video interview. Qualified applicants may be asked to complete a short drafting exercise and discuss their technical approach. We will invite final candidates to an in-person interview at our Clearwater office, where you can meet the team and learn more about the role. We will keep you updated at each stage and aim to communicate final decisions within one week of your application. AEC Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. Reasonable accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities.
