The achievers and courageous challenge-crushers we seek, have the following characteristics and skills: The Drafter / Reverse Engineering Technician is responsible for utilizing advanced 3D scanning technology and CAD software to recreate, document, and modernize legacy and obsolete aircraft components. This role will leverage Keyence 3D scanning equipment to capture physical part geometry, develop accurate 3D models in Fusion 360, and create manufacturing-ready drawings and DXF files for production and machining operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong machining and manufacturing background, preferably within the aerospace industry, and have experience working with aging, obsolete, or unsupported components. This position supports the sustainment of non-airworthiness aircraft components by creating digital engineering data packages that enable continued manufacturing, repair, and inventory support. What You will
Do:
Reverse Engineering & 3D Scanning Operate Keyence 3D scanning equipment to capture highly accurate dimensional data from existing components. Scan obsolete, worn, or undocumented parts and assemblies for digital recreation. Evaluate scan data for completeness and dimensional accuracy. Process point cloud and mesh data to create usable CAD geometry. Identify critical dimensions, tolerances, and design features from scanned components. CAD Modeling & Drafting Develop detailed 3D solid models using Fusion 360. Convert scanned physical parts into fully parametric CAD models. Generate manufacturing drawings and technical documentation from CAD models. Create and maintain DXF files for CNC machining, waterjet, laser cutting, and fabrication processes. Develop engineering drawings that comply with company drafting standards. Revise and maintain engineering documentation as new information becomes available. Obsolete Part Sustainment Analyze legacy and obsolete components that may have limited or nonexistent technical documentation. Recreate engineering data packages from physical samples, hand sketches, legacy drawings, and scanned geometry. Support replacement-part development activities. Research historical part configurations and material specifications when available. Assist in developing modern manufacturing solutions for obsolete components. Manufacturing & Aerospace Support Partner with machinists, engineers, quality personnel, and production teams to validate designs. Evaluate manufacturability of recreated components. Incorporate machining best practices into model creation and drawing development. Support production troubleshooting and dimensional investigations. Assist with first article inspections and dimensional validation activities.
What You Will Bring:
Associate degree in Drafting, CAD Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience. 3+ years of experience in drafting, CAD modeling, machining, manufacturing engineering support, or reverse engineering. Proficiency in Fusion 360 or similar CAD software. Experience creating 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models. Experience generating DXF files for manufacturing applications. Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications. Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Pay Range:
$27.88 - $32.69/hr. Compensation decisions are made based on factors including experience, skills, education, and other job-related factors, in accordance with our internal pay structure. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan.
Work Requirements:
This role is considered an on-site position located in Machnesy Park, IL
  • You must be able to commute to and from the location with your own transportation arrangements to meet the required working hours.
  • Shop floor environment, which may include but not limited to extensive walking, and ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
